Sitting on her floor were four teenage kids. They were sitting in a semi-circle, a small pile of what had been furniture at the centre, which the youngest of them was trying to get to set fire to. His lack of success was a source of much humor to the others.
Jazz stood straight and stepped into the doorway. “Just what the hell do you shit fuckers think you are doing in my living room !”
There was a stunned silence.
“We’re getting pissed,” a slightly older boy came out of the kitchen zipping up his fly with one hand, holding a can of beer in the other. “What’s it to you, you old bag,” a big dumb grin on his face.
“What it is to me, dick brain, is that you have ten seconds to get out of here before I pull your fucking head off.” Jazz took a step towards him. “One.” Another step. “Two.” And another.
He turned to smile at the others.
“Three.” Jazz stood beside him.
He turned back, just as Jazz took hold of his jacket and lifted him off the floor. Their eyes met. His idiotic grin collapsed.
“I hope you can run fast, fuck face.” Jazz flexed her wrists, sending him and two of his seated contemporaries into a few seconds of confused, tangled bodies. Followed by muttered curses.
“But you said TEN,” the youngest one stood, spilling his can of beer.
“I lie a lot dog breath,” Jazz put an edge into her voice. “How shift your fucking arses out of here.”
There was a silent pause. Jazz took a step forward and the kids ran over each other in their haste to depart.
Jazz slumped against the wall, collected herself after a few minutes and stumbled up the stairs to her bedroom. She could only think of sleep. The bedroom was in slightly better shape than the rooms below, the zero-G woods of the heavy furniture were tough, but the bed was in pieces. She tugged the mattress into the centre of the room and lay down, glad to have something soft to lie on. It did not even matter that it was soggy.
As soon as her head hit the mattress she went into a deep, deep sleep. And even the sun did not wake her as it climbed up the sky, nor as it descended on the other side.
